"In den Dellen" Quarry

The quarry is within easy driving distance from the town of Nickenich. One doesn't need a 4WD vehicle. A county road leads to the pit. The final way is a short, small, sandy country lane which leads to a small parking lot at the entry of the pit. There one can meet other collectors.

In the pit one should search for darker layers which contain the hauynes. If one can reach an agreement with the driver of a bulldozer, he can uncover interesting hauyne layers within a short time.

For collecting hauyne you should take this equipment with you: tweezers, loupe, hammer, bucket, pickaxe, plastic bags, spade, umbrella resp. sun lotion, hat, folding chair and drinks.

Searching for hauyne at the vertical slopes ist rather dangerous because loose masses or heavy stones could come off. It is wise to stay in the pit together with another person so that someone can call for help.
