History:
Serendibite was discovered in Sri Lanka, in 1902.
First description in 1903, by G.T. Prior and A.K. Coomáraswámy.
Structure analysis: 1974.
Discovery of serendibite in Tayozhnoye / eastern Siberia / Russia, in 1991.
"So far there exist three faceted specimens of 0.35 ct, 0.55 ct, and 0.56 ct. The first two were discovered by rare stone specialist D. P. Gunasekera and purchased by the late Prof. E. J. Gübelin (Switzerland)".
